Head Start Home Based Program

The Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College is such a wonderful CDR partner that wins the families’ hearts every time they visit. On Friday, May 29, our Head Start Home-Based Program team provided a fun social outing for its program families. The trip was hosted by the Home-Based social planning group known as Awesome Butterflies. It’s a unique experience when families get to visit a zoo located in their own backyard. Visitors experienced a wildlife education and preservation lesson via a 30-minute show and tell. Everyone then had the opportunity to walk around the complex to explore and learn about

CDR’s Head Start Home-Based Program recently held a group social called, Healthy Minds and Bodies. The focus for this gathering was AWARENESS—helping families learn simple, meaningful ways to stay healthy without needing to do anything extra or complicated. Through activities like yoga, tummy time with babies, music, relaxation, and a makeshift fruit smoothie bar, families were able to learn how small routines can make a big difference. There were also additional sections with fun seasonal activities, such as winter-themed snow globes and hopscotch, to keep everyone engaged. Join Guadalupe and her 2-year-old son, Matthew, as they turn everyday kitchen scraps like eggshells, banana peels, and coffee grounds, into homemade fertilizer. This video makes it easy and fun for families to learn about recycling, basic science, and the magic of plant growth. With plenty of laughs and a little mess along the way, it’s a great activity for sparking curiosity about how things work, all while giving the garden some love. Five-year-old Steven, two-year-old Rose, and their parents, have a ton of fun experimenting with a homemade volcano.
