On Friday, September 26, 2025, Child Development Resources Head Start family gathered at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center for The Heart of Head Start celebration. Parents, past and current, direct service staff, and leadership team, filled the venue with anticipation, ready to reflect on the impact of the work, hear powerful stories, and honor the dedication of staff across every role.

Amid these acknowledgements, the audience joined in a joyous 60th birthday celebration honoring Head Start’s enduring legacy. But it was the video montage of our current children that truly brought the event to life. One by one, the children spoke candidly about what makes them happy at school — the joy of painting, singing, learning new things, and spending time with friends. Some described their favorite teachers and home visitors, sharing in the pure, unfiltered honesty only children can provide, explaining how these adults make them feel seen, safe, and loved.

The event concluded with the closing words from Suzanne Godinez, Director of Early Childhood Programs. “You are the difference. Every role has impact. Every moment matters.” The message resonated deeply, leaving staff, and panelists inspired and united in their commitment to continue this important work.

The Heart of Head Start was more than a celebration, it was a vivid reminder of the lives transformed every day. From parents’ heartfelt testimonies to the joy-filled reflections of children, the event highlighted the extraordinary impact of the program and the unwavering dedication of those who make it all possible. Everyone left with a renewed sense of pride, purpose, and connection, ready to carry the spirit of Head Start into the year ahead.
